A pair of yoga leggings (or yoga pants) that won't bunch around your ankles or give you a camel toe in downward dog can be as hard to find as inner calm on a Monday morning. (We've been there, tried the mid-meeting [meditation](https://www.womenshealthmag.com/uk/health/mental-health/a708049/how-to-meditate/), can't necessarily recommend it.) But fear not: we've done the hard work to find the best yoga leggings for every type of practice.

Whether you're heading to [yoga](https://www.womenshealthmag.com/uk/fitness/yoga/) or [Pilates](https://www.womenshealthmag.com/uk/pilates/), settling in for a Netflix marathon or strolling to the park for some fresh air, a great pair of leggings is a wardrobe staple. The best pairs stay put, move with you and feel comfortable from your first stretch to your final savasana.

So, whether you're indulging in a stress-busting candlelit yoga session or sweating through a morning power flow, here are our favourite yoga leggings, all tried and tested by the _Women's Health_ team. Scroll on for our in-depth reviews, plus answers to all your yoga leggings FAQs.

## What's the benefit of wearing yoga leggings?

Above all, yoga leggings provide comfort and flexibility while you practise – both of which are pretty important when you're bending every which way. 'Wearing leggings specifically designed for practising yoga will make your practice comfortable and safe,' says [Liz Joy Hardie](https://www.moreyoga.co.uk/team/liz-joy-hardie), Head of Wellness & Product at [MoreYoga](https://www.moreyoga.co.uk/ "https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.moreyoga.co.uk/__;!!Ivohdkk!if7LnxN6ZHGkuyeumKdElkGB1C-qIUVip-dpi4injIOphKY3xzD2a2Sc6lCWSBCrui9uMqCA7jMpte3BOOMEtC1lH3rATL4$").

'The fabrics used in yoga leggings are made for purpose so perfect for balances, flowing sequences and moving in and out of certain postures like Tree Pose, which require a non-slip fabric for you to stay in the balance without slipping out,' says Hardie. 'They are also often made with breathable fabrics that make you feel relaxed and comfortable in your own skin – the perfect combination for any yoga practice!'

**Meet the expert**: [Liz Joy Hardie](https://www.moreyoga.co.uk/team/liz-joy-hardie) is Head of of Wellness & Product at MoreYoga. She's a trained holistic wellbeing coach and senior yoga teacher specialising in yoga therapy for stress and anxiety. Having begun her career in fashion, she left to pursue yoga, and since completing her yoga teacher training in 2014 has taught around the world.

## Can't I just wear my gym leggings?

While it might be temping to throw on your go-to [gym leggings](https://www.womenshealthmag.com/uk/gym-wear/a708199/best-gym-leggings/) for yoga, this is likely a bad idea, as most gym leggings are compressive and designed for higher intensity exercises, so you may not be able to move in the right way, and they could cut in uncomfortably in certain poses.

'It’s worth buying leggings specifically designed for yoga so you can practise safely and feel confident,' says Hardie. 'Having the right leggings is like having the best equipment – whether you’re doing hot yoga, a dynamic power practice, yin yoga or restorative, yoga leggings will be designed for style and comfort so you look and feel amazing.'

## What to consider when buying yoga leggings

Material

The most important factor in yoga leggings is that they have great stretch without being restrictive, so opt for flexible fabrics like nylon, polyester and elastane.

Moisture-wicking should also be a consideration, particularly if you’re a dynamic flow kinda gal, as well as breathability and the general feel of the material – the best yoga leggings tend to use soft fabrics that feel smooth against the skin, rather than more technical feeling fabrics you might find on [gym leggings](https://www.womenshealthmag.com/uk/gym-wear/a708199/best-gym-leggings/).

'Where possible, you could also opt for natural fabrics such as cotton and bamboo, which offer breathability and comfort and are less synthetic,' says Hardie.

Waistband

Most yoga leggings have high, wide waistbands which offer extra support and pair well with longline bras so you don’t have to wear a top if you find the extra fabric a distraction.

But if you don’t love that held-in feeling (though when it comes to yoga leggings it's always a gentle, supportive feel rather than compressive), opt for mid-rise or wrap waists (which also happen to look super flattering), or you might prefer yoga pants with a less structured waist.

Style

It goes without saying that your yoga leggings should look great and help you feel confident on the mat – and all the styles we’ve recommended we feel do just that.

If you prefer the look of loose yoga pants over leggings, just make sure you’ve considered whether you’ll find a flared leg riding up in three-legged dog annoying or not.

Compression

Yoga leggings don’t tend to offer as much compression as gym leggings, but you may prefer a gentle compression to help you feel supported and enhance muscle recovery.

Seams

Ideally your yoga leggings will have flat seams to reduce chafing, or possibly be completely seamless for a sleek, undisturbed flow (and to make camel toe a problem of the past).

Some yoga leggings use seams to enhance sculpting features – [Sweaty Betty's Super Soft Yoga Leggings](https://go.redirectingat.com/?id=127X1380942&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.sweatybetty.com%2Fshop%2Fbottoms%2Fleggings%2Fsuper-soft-7-8-yoga-leggings-SB6916_TrekGreenSprayDye_78Length.html) are a good example of this – so really it comes down to personal preference.

Fit and length

You want a snug but comfortable fit that allows for free movement. If your waistband feels like it’s cutting you in half, size up or try a different style. Length-wise we tend to go for a 7/8 fit to ensure there’s no loose fabric to roll up around the ankles, but taller women may want to choose a regular or long leg.

Many brands offer a range of lengths, so check the individual size guides to determine the best fit for you.

Ethics and sustainability

As with any purchase, you should consider whether the values of the company you're buying from align with your own. 'Yoga philosophy teaches us to practice ahimsa, which is understood to mean non-violence and compassion, so I believe it’s important to choose sustainable brands that do not negatively impact the planet to help embody yogic teachings,' says Hardie.

'When you’re looking for yoga leggings, think about where you’re buying from, who you’re supporting and where in the world they are made.'

## How we test yoga leggings

To find the best yoga leggings and yoga pants, our team of editors, writers and willing yogi [testers](https://www.womenshealthmag.com/uk/lab/a40675174/testing-explained/) tried out each and every pair of yoga leggings in this guide – including several that didn't make the cut. We tried the leggings across a variety of yoga class styles, including dynamic and yin, as well as donning them for reformer Pilates, barre, and simply running errands.

![best yoga leggings tested for yoga and reformer pilates](https://hips.hearstapps.com/hmg-prod/images/best-yoga-leggings-tested-68af1428c91ea.jpg?resize=980:* "Best yoga leggings tested")

Some of the yoga leggings we tested

Many of our recommendations come from years of use and familiarity with the products, while others we tested specifically for this piece over several months. In every case, each tester reported back on how they found the design and fit, as well as whether they performed well on the mat.

We also kept a close on eye on durability and longevity – many of the yoga leggings on this list have been editor favourites for years, and thus washed more times than we can count, so we've only recommended those that have held their shape and elasticity and haven't bobbled.

Consider this your go ahead to buy those lululemons you’ve been lusting after because these leggings aced our testing with one of our panel describing them as the comfiest pair they’d ever worn – and our editors thoroughly agree.

Though the fit varied between our testers, everyone raved about the seamless design and luxuriously soft fabric. There’s a small slip pocket in the front of the waistband that will hold a card and a small phone at a push, but if you want more storage the brand to make a [pair with pockets too](https://go.redirectingat.com/?id=127X1380942&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.lululemon.co.uk%2Fen-gb%2Fp%2Flululemon-align%25E2%2584%25A2-high-rise-pant-with-pockets-25%2522%2Fprod10370071.html).

We carried out wash tests on the lululemon Align leggings in the [_WH_ lab](https://www.womenshealthmag.com/uk/lab/a40675174/testing-explained/) to ensure that they stay fresh after a spin in the washing machine – plus our editors still wear pairs they bought _years_ ago with zero complaints, but we do recommend you don't tumble dry them to avoid bobbling.

If you’re after a pair for hot yoga, just make sure to pick a darker colour so they’re sweat-patch proof. Overall though, they’re star sun saluters. And the brand has recently announced a new version of the [Align leggings without a central front seam](https://go.redirectingat.com/?id=127X1380942&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.lululemon.co.uk%2Fen-gb%2Fp%2Flululemon-align-no-line%25E2%2584%25A2-high-rise-pant-25%2522%2Fprod11900026.html) – hallelujah!

These H&M leggings from the new SoftMove collection are seriously luxurious to wear, but without the premium price tag. They glide on and are silky smooth and not too thick, to the point that it almost feels like you're wearing nothing at all. This is all down to the new fabric, which is super soft and flexible, utilising Lycra Sport technology for complete freedom of movement.

Not to namecheck a certain Canadian brand we mentioned above, but they're rather reminiscent of \*those\* cult yoga leggings, particularly in the waistband, which is similarly wide, supportive and double-lined and even a familiar sculpting shape. They're super flexible, as you'd expect from a yoga pant, very comfortable and pleasingly quick-drying. Plus there's even a small key/card pocket on the back left of the waistband.

We took a risk in testing out the white colourway and found that dark underwear showed through faintly and generally they were not as opaque as we would have liked, so opting for a darker colour might be wise. However, they're so lovely to practice in that we had to include them here – we'll just be reserving them for home flows.

After sporting Oner's SoftMotion leggings for numerous flows, reformer classes and low-impact work, we can say with confidence that they rival the quality of far more expensive brands. Created by fitness entrepreneur Krissy Cela, Oner (pronounced "honour") is built around activewear that supports real, everyday movement, and these leggings are an excellent example.

They feel cool and silky the moment you pull them on, with a lightweight, smooth fabric that allows completely unimpeded movement through yoga flows. Despite the thin material, they stay firmly in place: the wide, high-rise waistband doesn't roll, slip or dig in when you bend, stretch or fold. Tested in black, they were also fully squat-proof.

A major selling point is the lack of a front seam – a rarity in yoga leggings and a big win for comfort and confidence. At the back, subtle V-shaped stitching creates flattering glute separation. You are slightly aware of the seam in certain poses, but it's never uncomfortable and feels like a fair trade-off for the sculpting effect.

With gentle compression, a premium feel and loads of colour options, these are seriously impressive yoga leggings for the price.

Adanola has reworked its classic gym leggings with a flattering wrap-over waist, which helps provide extra support around the tummy. The seamless panel at the front also means you can wave goodbye to the dreaded legging camel toe.

These leggings look and feel good, with multiple testers praising the super stretchy, soft feel of the fabric. Although they kept our panel cool, they don’t claim to be sweat-wicking, so save for low-impact activities such as Pilates, yoga and running to the shop, but do note that some testers found the material a little thin at full stretch – just make sure nobody’s behind you when you drop into yogi squat. Ideal for upper body blasts and post-yoga brunching.

Hands down, these are the best pair of Vuori leggings to date – and at that price, you’d hope so. These truly feel like they're worth their cost, which is saying something. Similarly to lululemon's Wunder Under SmoothCover leggings below, these err towards a the training legging hybrid, but are more flexible and certainly still feel more 'studio' – but they'd handle general training well too.

The brand have combined the 'BlissBlend' softness its known for with enhanced compression for a held-in sensation and more performance-oriented legging. They are gorgeously smooth and soft, sleek, chic and flattering, plus they're squat-proof despite the thin material. We'd usually expect leggings with this kind of support and opaque-ness to be thicker, but that's not the case here. Because of this, these leggings are so light, flexible and easy to move in, it feels like you’re barely wearing anything other than a gentle hugging sensation (and we mean gentle).

The V-waistband looks great and doesn't cut in all, supporting all movement – you can move every which way and they’re not going anywhere. They have just the right level of support, you can use them for higher intensity work or for slow flows, or just sport them as an everyday legging. Ours have also been through the washing machine more times than we can count, and they still look brand new. They're honestly a brilliant pair of leggings you could use for everything, but whether that justifies the £110 (!) price tag is up to you.

If you’re not familiar with M&S’s activewear line Goodmove, get to know. They produce some seriously impressive performance pieces for very reasonable prices, and these yoga leggings (which might just be a very convincing alternative for a much more expensive brand…) are among our favourite items.

Why, you ask? Well, for starters: the leggings are super flexible and very comfortable, they’re totally squat-proof and the material has that soft-yet-smooth brushed quality that is usually reserved for more premium leggings. Other brilliant features include a reinforced ankle hem (so they don’t go slack over time – a pet peeve of ours), the flattering wrap waist, lightweight construction (despite complete opacity they’re not bulky) and an antibacterial finish to keep stink at bay. We’d say that’s pretty good for £26.

While they’re described as high-waisted, we found they were more on the mid-rise side, particularly at the point where the crossover waist dips, but this is a minor niggle. After years of use and multiple washes they’ve retained their shape and still look and perform well. Genuinely an incredible bargain and we can’t believe they haven’t raised the price yet.

It takes a lot to convince our Senior Ecommerce Editor (a devout leggings wearer who generally isn’t a fan of yoga pants) to swap her second skin for something looser. But these have made her rethink.

Made from lululemon’s soft Nulu fabric (the same material as the famous Align leggings above), they feel incredibly smooth and comfortable, with a lovely drape that hangs away from the body without leaving you feeling smothered in fabric. They’re ideal if you don’t enjoy form-fitting leggings, or for those bloated, PMS-y days when the last thing you want is compression around your middle.

The wide waistband isn’t far off the feel of a regular leggings waistband and has a drawcord to customise the fit. We found the trousers stayed up without any adjustments, while the full-length relaxed cut remained flattering rather than overwhelming.

You can also cinch the internal drawcords at the ankles for a more secure, tapered or barrel-leg shape, which is handy during inversions. The cords are cleverly looped, too, so there are no loose ends tickling your ankles whether you use them or not. We preferred to leave ours loose (they still didn't really fall down), but love having the option.

The hand pockets are another major plus, particularly the hidden valuables sleeve inside the right one. The material isn’t overly thick, but it’s substantial enough that we wouldn’t choose these for very hot days or a sweaty power flow. For slower yoga, Pilates, lounging and generally prioritising comfort, though, they’re a dream.

Our only complaint? The gorgeous green shade we tested is no longer available. Pair yours with [lululemon’s Flow Y Ruched Bra](https://go.redirectingat.com/?id=127X1380942&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.lululemon.co.uk%2Fen-gb%2Fp%2Fflow-y-ruched-bra-light-support%252C-b%252Fc-cup%2Fykqe72op5v.html%3Fdwvar_ykqe72op5v_color%3D072761) in a matching colour to continue the comfort (we're big fans of the on-trend Walnut Crunch shade).

From the brand’s new [Ultimate Studio collection](https://www.womenshealthmag.com/uk/gym-wear/a64698428/sweaty-betty-ultimate-studio-review/), these leggings tick pretty much every box and pass the all-important style test (there is always room in our wardrobe for more animal print).

These leggings are flexible, so comfortable and adaptive to all movement, with a slightly curved high waistband that moves with you, rather than compressing. They're made from a thinner, silkier fabric than the brand's signature yoga leggings, which we feel places them a cut above as they facilitate better movement and offer superior sweat-wicking. They're honestly a dream to move in. Plus there's a deep, V-shaped slip pocket on the left thigh which fits a phone easily, so you can travel light to the studio.

The cut is flattering, with cleverly placed seams that lengthen while staying true to the minimal feel of the leggings, and the fit is spot-on too – sometimes we have to size up with Sweaty Betty but we took out usual size here and they were spot on. They're available in both 7/8 and full length too – if you're above 5'4" it's recommended you go for the [full length](https://go.redirectingat.com/?id=127X1380942&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.sweatybetty.com%2Fshop%2Fbottoms%2Fleggings%2Fultimate-studio-leggings-SB10033_BrownPantherPrint_FullLength.html).

Two of our editors rated these leggings their favourite item from [Free People’s activewear collection](https://www.womenshealthmag.com/uk/gym-wear/a60755642/fp-movement-review/), and that’s thanks in no small part to how insanely comfortable they are. With a high, panelled waistband they’re super sculpting without feeling _too_ compressive, and once they’re on you almost forget you’re wearing them – dreamy.

The fit (described as 7/8 length) is slightly cropped, which suited us well but may look a tad short if you’re on the taller side, and there’s a small pocket on the inside of the waistband that fits a credit card – but bear in mind that’s about it.

We’re pleased to report the leggings are fully squat proof, even in lighter colours, and manage to maintain that gorgeous downy softness without being bulky – these are _very_ lightweight. For total flexibility and freedom of movement, these are an absolute winner.

Gymshark doesn't exactly spring to mind when you think of soft, flowy gym wear, but trust the sportswear giant to absolutely nail a pair of yoga leggings in one of its latest drops – the Soft Sculpt collection. Minimal and chic, these leggings are super flexible but feature Gymshark's signature compressive waistband, which creates a gorgeous shape and means you never have to pull the leggings up. They don't cut in, but you are more aware of the waistband in forward folds than you might be in some other leggings – so if you don't mind that during yoga then these are a brilliant choice. There's also no central front seam which is a bonus.

They're also lovely to move in, as they're incredibly flexible as well as sleek and chic, so you gain bags of confidence by just pulling them on. We tested the black and found the leggings completely opaque, even in yogi squats, but the brand does warn that due to the lightweight fabric, some sheerness might occur then the material is stretched. We didn't experience that, but maybe it's the case with lighter colourways.

Honestly, it takes a _lot_ for a pair of yoga leggings to edge our favourites from a certain Canadian brand out of our rotation – but these Nike numbers are absolutely gorgeous, and have done just that. As well as feeling lovely to wear – they’re smooth, with no restrictions and gentle compression on the waist for a held in (but not Heimliched) feeling – they perform brilliantly too.

There’s simply no level of contortion you could force yourself into that these couldn’t handle – they are stretchy, people – plus they’re squat-proof and genuinely a joy to move in. We loved that there’s no seam on the ankle hem, so there’s no digging in or rolling.

And even better; the wide, double-lined waistband has a roomy pocket to the rear interior, so you can carry your phone without the shape of it on your thigh interrupting your smooth silhouette. Why not get yourself a pair of the brand's bamboo yoga pants while you’re at it? That way, you’ll be covered no matter the day, your desire for space or added support and the [type of yoga](https://www.womenshealthmag.com/uk/fitness/yoga/a25706715/types-of-yoga/) you have in mind.

Despite their relaxed demeanour, these yoga pants will be hard at work keeping things dry and breezy (thanks to that naturally sweat-wicking bamboo), and once their job on the mat is done, they’ll allow you to transition from salutations to the sofa with ease. Wear for soft sequences, where gentle fabric and a loose fit will enhance the overall experience.

Prefer a wide leg? We also adore the brand’s [Wide Leg Yoga Pants](https://go.redirectingat.com/?id=127X1380942&url=https%3A%2F%2Fbambooclothing.co.uk%2Fshop%2Fcotton-gauze-wide-leg-yoga-pant-crema%2F). Ireland's answer to lululemon, Gym + Coffee makes top-qual gym wear and athleisure for a more reasonable price tag. We think these might be the brand's best leggings yet. You have to feel them to believe just how silky soft they are, and moving in these is like floating around in a softer second skin, giving a seamless, flowy quality to your practice. They are truly dreamy.

We adore the waistband – it's the widest and highest we've seen, which gives a lovely held-in feeling and means you can pair the leggings with just a [sports bra](https://www.womenshealthmag.com/uk/gym-wear/g38577813/best-sports-bra/) and still have great coverage. The sheer size of the waistband meant it did roll down slightly on our ( tester (although she does have a short torso), but it didn't shift the position of the leggings at all – they still stayed put throughout hour-long flows and reformer Pilates classes.

Speaking of that waistband – it has three vertical pockets in the back, the middle one of which can fit a phone, and you can stash cards and keys in the others. While the material is quite thin, it is squat-proof, but will show the outline of underwear unless you find something truly seamless, so bear that in mind.

Celebs can’t get enough of this LA-based yoga brand, and these leggings are a particular favourite for nailing the chic off-duty look – but thankfully they also perform brilliantly too.

Made from the brand’s Airbrush material – a cottony feel nylon elastane blend – these leggings smooth and sculpt in all the right places, while the medium compression feels like you’re wearing a supportive hug and helps you feel confident and comfortable on the mat.

The stretch is impressive too, plus the leggings are fully squat-proof and the waistband is reassuringly wide so there’s no digging in. 'Designed for yoga and training' might sound like an contradictory claim, but hear us (and lululemon) out. These leggings act like a clever hybrid between gym leggings and yoga pants, making them more suited for high intensity flows, [Lagree](https://www.womenshealthmag.com/uk/fitness/strength-training/a44515466/lagree-method/) or dynamic reformer, where you might want a bit more support, rather than for restorative work.

That said, we were intrigued to see how these measured up to lululemon’s cult [Align leggings](https://go.redirectingat.com/?id=127X1380942&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.lululemon.co.uk%2Fen-gb%2Fp%2Flululemon-align%25E2%2584%25A2-high-rise-pant-25%2522%2Fprod2020012.html) (still our go-to). They feel like a tighter fit as you put them on – due to the higher compression – and the brand does note that you should expect these to feel tight to begin with. After a few goes on the reformer we can say they have loosened up a touch, but we certainly wouldn't be reaching for them for yin yoga. The material feels a bit thicker too, and while it smooth and stretchy, isn't as velvety soft as on the Align – but is better at wicking sweat without a doubt.

There's no way you'll need to pull these up during practice – they stay put thanks to that more supportive fit, which we came to appreciate; it makes the leggings more flattering, you feel svelte and hugged in, and they really come into their own during power flows and more intense Pilates classes. They're squat-proof too, and while you feel more aware of them as opposed to the Align leggings, there are no restrictions when you're moving and have worn them in a bit – they may feel a little stiff in some deep stretches to start with.

The curved waistband is flattering, features a subtle logo to the back and has a really deep drop-in pocket – you can seriously fit a lot of stuff back there.

Before you scroll past, these leggings do NOT feel like shapewear (although they have a similar effect). While most sculpting designs rely on heavy compression, which isn't ideal for low-impact work, the SPANX OnForm leggings use a stretchy, snap-to-skin material and light compression for an impressive smoothing effect. The waistband is super high to help snatch the waist and sculpt the hips for an effect that looks _and_ feels amazing (not surprising given this is SPANX's bread and butter).

These leggings are lovely to move in, with no central front seam to distract, and excellent stretch so you never really have to think about the fact you're wearing them. The sweat-wicking is brilliant too – we left a dynamic Reformer class bone dry.

The material means it's easy to get a good fit with these leggings – once on you can pull and rearrange the fabric to suit your height and body shape. Don't be deterred by how small they look – when we saw ours (we took our usual size) we thought there was absolutely no chance we were getting them on, but they fit like a glove and feel amazing too.

If you largely just wear yoga leggings to stroke your thighs and marvel at the softness, this is the pair for you. In case the name (and that bizarre statement) didn’t suggest, these are _crazy_ soft – but of course, the good people at Sweaty Betty have ensured that doesn’t come at the cost of functionality and performance.

Supportive and sculpting, Sweaty Betty’s signature yoga leggings are reassuringly thick without restricting movement, and while they are a little more busy in the seam department than other leggings on this list, this all adds to the body contouring effect – plus there’s a handy side pocket that fits your phone.

While these are sweat-wicking, do bear in mind that they are on the thicker side – we personally prefer not to use them for hot yoga or dynamic work.

lululemon's much-loved classic has returned, and it's just the addition our yoga (and brunch, barre, barely-doing-anything-on-the-sofa) wardrobe needs. Apart from giving us killer retro vibes, these flared pants are every bit as studio-friendly as their slimmer counterparts, thanks to lululemon's signature Nulu fabric, which is buttery soft, sweat-wicking and wonderfully lightweight.

While we still reach for leggings for more dynamic flows, these have become a favourite for gentler yoga, Pilates and barre classes, where the relaxed silhouette feels just as comfortable as it looks. The super-high waistband offers plenty of coverage without digging in, staying put through stretches and roll-downs, while the flared leg hangs beautifully and never feels overly bulky.

There's also a handy drop-in pocket hidden in the waistband that's roomy enough for your phone, so you can head straight from the studio to coffee without needing an extra bag. Just bear in mind that the wider leg can ride up a little during inversions, making these better suited to slower practices such as Hatha, yin or reformer Pilates than fast-paced vinyasa or power yoga.

If comfort is your priority, though, these are hard to beat. Effortlessly flattering, incredibly soft and just the right amount of nostalgic, they're the yoga pants we find ourselves reaching for long after class has finished.

Trendy SoCal brand Vuori has some of the most comfortable waistbands around, and that’s thanks to their multi-panelled construction. Where most brands use two panels (one front and one back), for their AllTheFeels leggings the brand have used four – one across the front, one across the back, and one each on each hip. Not only does this prevent a flattened look (and incidentally aid breathwork as you can really expand in every direction), it’s far more comfortable, plus super flattering as you’re sculpted around your hips.

But that’s not all – hidden inside one waistband hip section is a pocket, ideal for stashing a phone or cards. Add to this genius the fact that the leggings are crazy soft and comfortable, with a barely-there feel and despite their thin construction and squat-proof too. We are in love.

## FAQs

## Are yoga pants and leggings the same thing?

Answer: pretty much.

Yoga pants can be a thicker, looser fit than yoga leggings, which are usually tighter, stretchier and more high-waisted, but in our experience the terms are interchangeable.

Best practice would most likely be to find a pair of technical yoga leggings or yoga pants that are designed to wick sweat, breathe, stretch and [flow with you](https://www.womenshealthmag.com/uk/fitness/yoga/a33656535/thirty-minute-yin-yoga-flow/), without billowing fabric getting in the way while you're at it.

That said, while harem pants might not be the best for some people's yoga practice, if they're what gets you down to your yoga mat, and you like the extra room, we're not here to stop you.

## How do I keep my leggings from falling down?

Look for a high **and** wide waistband that lies flat on your torso, as well as making sure they have an adjustable drawstring to keep the leggings up.

As with most clothing, yoga leggings will stretch incrementally over time. It's far better to get the size that fits well now rather than one that's too big solely for comfort.

Phew – so with that out the way, you'll find the best yoga pants and yoga leggings to buy now below. Whether you’re flowing with dynamic yoga, recharging with yin or sweating it out with vinyasa, there’s a pair here for you.

## What should I wear with yoga leggings?

The beauty of leggings is that everything goes with them. But for a low-impact workout, be that yoga, Pilates, barre or something else, comfort is key. Make sure to wear a [sports bra](https://www.womenshealthmag.com/uk/gym-wear/g38577813/best-sports-bra/) that fits well, allows for good shoulder mobility and isn’t too compressive (we’re big fans of [Vuori's AllTheFeels bra](https://go.redirectingat.com/?id=127X1380942&url=https%3A%2F%2Fvuoriclothing.co.uk%2Fproducts%2Fwomens-vuori-allthefeels-bra-black)).

For your top, the fit will really depend on preference – some like a looser fit, some like tight-to-the-body tops to minimise fabric gaping in inversions. Whichever way you go, think about breathability (particularly if you’re expecting to sweat) and shoulder movement. For slower flows such as restorative and yin, consider taking a long-sleeve layer with you – this will come in handy for shavasana or if the studio isn’t all that warm.

## What should I wear under yoga leggings?

When it comes to what to wear _under_ yoga leggings, opinion is split – plenty of people go commando as it can be more comfortable, and if you’re washing your leggings after every workout as you should, doesn’t pose a hygiene risk (just make sure they’re fully squat-proof!). Otherwise, a seamless, sweat-wicking thong with a wide, flat waistband is best – we like these [mid-rise thongs from lululemon](https://go.redirectingat.com/?id=127X1380942&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.lululemon.co.uk%2Fen-gb%2Fp%2Finvisiwear-mid-rise-thong-underwear-3-pack%2Fprod10520456.html%3Fdwvar_prod10520456_color%3D068971), or you can check out our guide to the [best gym underwear](https://www.womenshealthmag.com/uk/gym-wear/g70199783/best-underwear-for-workouts/).

## How do I wash yoga leggings?

Yoga leggings need a bit of TLC to keep them performing their best and retaining their shape. As with any clothing, it's best to follow the manufacturer's instructions when washing, however, we've found the same rules tend to apply across the board:

- Turn your leggings inside out (this protects from pilling).
- Wash on a cold (30°C is usually fine), gentle cycle with mild detergent. Do not use fabric conditioner, as this can damage sweat-wicking tech.
- Air dry, ideally not on a radiator or other heat source, and _never_ tumble dry.

## What are the best yoga leggings?

_Women’s Health UK_ found the [lululemon Align High-Rise Pant](https://go.redirectingat.com/?id=127X1380942&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.lululemon.co.uk%2Fen-gb%2Fp%2Flululemon-align%25E2%2584%25A2-high-rise-pant-25%2522%2Fprod2020012.html) the best yoga leggings overall. Comfortable, flexible and allowing for total free movement, they tick all the boxes while offering a minimal, no-fuss design – so they pair easily with the rest of your workout wardrobe. Not to mention they’re luxuriously soft, squat-proof and a total joy to wear.

For a more budget option we recommend [H&M's Yoga Leggings with SoftMove](https://go.redirectingat.com/?id=127X1380942&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww2.hm.com%2Fen_gb%2Fproductpage.1255283002.html). A favourite of our Editor in Chief, they offer incredible stretch, softness and comfort at a bargain price. They're also very flattering and squat-proof (so long as you go for the darker colours).

We're also big fans of [M&S’ Goodmove Go Balance Wrap Waist Yoga Leggings](https://go.redirectingat.com/?id=127X1380942&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.marksandspencer.com%2Fgo-balance-high-waisted-yoga-leggings%2Fp%2Fclp60489403). Packed with features you'd expect from more premium brands – we’re talking soft, stretchy construction, reinforced seams and complete opacity – they’re incredible value and last a long time too.
