[CMA CGM](https://www.supplychain247.com/topic/tag/CMA_CGM) has launched the CMA CGM NOTRE DAME, which the company says is the world's largest LNG-powered containership. The vessel has begun its first commercial voyage and is part of a larger effort to add more LNG-powered ships to the company's fleet.

The ship will serve routes between Asia and Northern Europe, helping move goods through one of the world's busiest [shipping](https://www.supplychain247.com/topic/tag/Shipping) corridors.

The vessel can carry up to 24,212 [containers](https://www.supplychain247.com/topic/tag/Container_Shipping) and is the first in a planned series of 10 ships CMA CGM expects to bring into service between 2026 and 2028. The ships will operate under the French flag and are expected to be named after French landmarks.

The CMA CGM NOTRE DAME departed from Shanghai and will travel through major [ports](https://www.supplychain247.com/topic/tag/Ports) including Singapore, Rotterdam, Hamburg, and Le Havre. The route is one of the busiest [trade](https://www.supplychain247.com/topic/category/trade) lanes in the world and handles a large amount of [cargo](https://www.supplychain247.com/topic/tag/Cargo) moving between [manufacturers](https://www.supplychain247.com/topic/category/manufacturing), retailers, and consumers.

Beyond its size, the vessel includes several features designed to improve efficiency during long voyages. It has an 18,600-cubic-meter LNG tank built for extended Asia-Europe trips and can carry up to 1,600 refrigerated containers.

The ship's design also allows it to carry an additional 580 containers without increasing its overall dimensions, according to CMA CGM. The company said the vessel also includes digital navigation systems and [artificial intelligence](https://www.supplychain247.com/topic/tag/Artificial_Intelligence) tools that help monitor routes and energy use while at sea.
