How is automated regression different from end-to-end test automation?

End-to-end automation is a coverage technique. Automated regression is an outcome: protecting features that previously worked from breaking when something else changes. The same tools (Playwright, Cypress, Selenium) deliver both, but regression is engineered for stability, runtime and trust at every release, while end-to-end automation often optimises for breadth alone.

Do you build new suites or take over existing ones?

Both, and the engagement always begins with an audit. For greenfield suites, the audit is shorter and produces a tiered architecture brief. For existing suites, the audit produces a coverage map, flake scorecard and migration plan, so the engagement either rebuilds in parallel or refactors in place with no break in CI signal.

How do you control flake?

Flake is treated as an engineering metric with documented SLAs: flake rate per tier, mean time to fix and quarantine ageing window. Tests entering quarantine have a deadline. Tests that miss the deadline are deleted, refactored or rewritten at a different layer. The pipeline never carries flaky tests indefinitely on the assumption that someone will eventually get to them.

Which framework do you recommend for new suites?

For most modern web suites, Playwright is the current default: modern API, fast parallel execution and strong cross-browser coverage. Cypress remains a strong choice for component testing on React, Vue and Angular front-ends. Selenium and WebdriverIO are recommended where existing investment is significant. Recommendations are always made against an evaluation matrix scoped to your stack, hiring market and operational fit.
