## Hypothesis

**A stiff and precisely controlled blade should reduce irritation**

Years of experience machining parts in the aerospace industry have taught us that rigid, well-supported cutting tools tend to cut better than tools that bend. 

Henson wanted to try to make an Electric Shaver that focused on blade stiffness and precisely controlled blade position. Henson hypothesized that this would provide a smoother and more consistent shave.

## Testing

**A look under the skin**

Many customers reported that a shave with the Henson Razor feels closer and smoother than with other razors. However, Henson needed to know this postulate for sure. Working with a medical imaging startup from Toronto, Henson was able to see and analyze the skin surface after shaving with a Razor from one of the leading manufacturers - and compare the result to the skin surface after shaving with a Henson AL13 Razor. 

Sixty volunteers shaved one side of their face or neck with a Henson Razor and the other side with a leading multi-blade Razor, then looked under the skin to measure any increase in irritation response.

## The result

**Less irritation**

The camera used for the test records the blood flow in the skin. The more damage to the skin, the more blood your body will send to the area to help repair it.

In these comparison images, the colored area represents where the participants shaved. The cooler colors represent little to no increase in blood flow and the warmer colors represent increased blood flow to the area.

In a nutshell: Green means less irritation, red means more irritation.

## Henson's conclusion

The test showed a statistically significant improvement after shaving with a Henson AL13 Razor. 

In other words: Shaving with a Henson AL13 Razor is gentler on the skin and causes less irritation - than using a multi-blade razor from one of the leading manufacturers.
