The **Stio Glide Tech** leggings are made from a 74% recycled nylon, 26% elastane knit blend. They feature UPF 50+ sun protection and a PFC-free durable water-repellent (DWR) finish for light moisture resistance. The fabric is lightweight, highly stretchy, and quick-drying.

### Comfort and Mobility

The **Glide Tech** sets the bar high for comfort and mobility. The knit fabric feels soft against the skin while providing better stretch than any other hiking pants, and even some yoga leggings. The fabric retains its shape and recovers through a full range of movement, from long trail days to high-step scrambling.

During testing, it easily kept up with trail stretches, moving without restriction and recovering quickly after deep bends, extended holds, and wide ranges of motion, such as the splits. A key highlight is the **Glide Tech's** waistband, which stays securely in place without digging in or shifting during sustained activity. It lands just below the belly button and is just as supportive under a pack's hip belt and during dynamic yoga flows. Overall, the Glide Tech rivals our award-winning yoga pants in pure comfort and mobility, while delivering the added durability and function needed for on-trail use.

### Venting and Breathability

Unlike hiking pants with vent panels, leggings rely on material weight and composition to keep your legs cool. Stio designed the **Glide Tech's** lightweight elastane for airflow and moisture management over heavy insulation. In other words, these are great spring and summer hiking pants. The thin, high-stretch fabric allows heat to dissipate quickly during running or uphill hiking, helping prevent overheating on climbs and fast-paced jaunts.

We found that when we sweat in the **Glide Tech**, the leggings dry quickly and don't feel sticky or cloying on sunny days. That recycled nylon/elastane blend helps breathability mainly through how the fibers and knit structure manage air and moisture. Nylon is a relatively lightweight, hydrophobic fiber that doesn't absorb much water, so sweat isn't held in the material — it spreads across the surface and evaporates. The elastane adds stretch without adding much thickness, allowing the fabric to be knit into a lighter, more open structure than a rigid weave would allow. That means the Glide felt relatively breathable while we hiked. As a legging, it doesn't offer the airflow of looser hiking pants, and is still too hot for intense desert heat, but it breathes well in most conditions.

### Versatility

The **Glide Tech** is a true hybrid piece rather than a dedicated hiking pant or purely athletic tight. We wore it on long trail days with a pack, around town, and during travel, and it consistently fit into all three settings without feeling out of place. The clean, sporty design makes it easy to move between a morning hike, errands, and extended travel without changing. Plus, it packs down small enough to fit into a carry-on or daypack.

On the trail, it earned our high marks for versatility on mixed-use days, when movement ranges from steady hiking to more dynamic scrambling or training-style movement. It handled rocky trail sections, yoga-based mobility work, and general hiking. While it doesn't have the abrasion resistance or pockets of a traditional hiking pant, it fills the gap well for users who prioritize comfort, simplicity, and a single piece that can reasonably cover both outdoor activity and everyday wear.

### Features

Stio keeps the **Glide Tech** design streamlined, focusing on a few key features that support comfort and everyday versatility. The features are simple yet dialed-in, starting with a wide, supportive waistband that stays secure without feeling restrictive. An internal drawcord allows fine-tuning the fit, though the leggings' fit is already so good we didn't really need to use it.

The **Glide Tech** includes two hip pockets that are sized well for securely carrying a phone, even during running or scrambling. They sit close to the body and hold items firmly without noticeable bounce, making them practical for situations where you don't want to carry a bag. In addition to the open hip pockets, there's a zippered thigh pocket that's especially well-suited for small valuables like keys. Overall, storage is minimal but more practical than many hiking pants. The fabric is finished with UPF 50+ sun protection for extended exposure in open terrain, along with a PFC-free DWR coating that helps shed light moisture from brush, mist, or brief rain.

The hip pockets can fit even oversized phones in shatterproof cases, and the zip pocket is subtle but can store items like cards and keys.   Credit: Kate Pitts

### Durability

The **Glide Tech** Legging is built for regular outdoor and everyday use, and in our testing, it held up well through repeated wear on the trail, during travel, and in casual use. We noticed _no pilling_ or threading over the testing period, and the fabric maintained its smooth surface and overall shape even after extended stretching and movement. It also recovered well after use, without getting saggy or loose in any areas.

That said, it is not designed for heavy abrasion or rugged off-trail abuse. Sharp rocks, thorny brush, and repeated sliding on rough surfaces will wear it out faster than a traditional hiking pant. It sits in the durability sweet spot for a legging: dependable for consistent use and active movement, but best suited for on-trail adventures, travel, and training rather than harsh alpine or bushwhacking terrain.

## Should You Buy the Stio Glide Tech?

The **Glide Tech** is a strong choice if you want a comfortable, movement-focused piece that works equally well for hiking, travel, running, yoga, and everyday wear. It excels in versatility and comfort, with a secure waistband, thoughtful pocket layout, and reliable sun and light-weather protection. We enjoyed wearing it in a wide range of conditions, and found it comfortable in all but summer or desert heat. While it won't replace a rugged hiking pant for abrasive terrain or heavy-duty use, it's the most comfortable pair of hiking leggings for both outdoor activities and daily life.

## What Other Hiking Pants Should You Consider?

If you want something with a similar mobility-first feel but a bit more warmth for winter, the [Arc'teryx Kyanite](https://www.outdoorgearlab.com/reviews/clothing-womens/hiking-pants-women/arcteryx-kyanite) is lined with fleece. It leans more toward a thermal midlayer-style tight with a brushed interior, making it a better choice for cold, snow, or shoulder-season layering. For an even more performance-driven option, the [Mammut Aenergy Light Tights](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Mammut+Aenergy+Light+Tights&tag=outdoocom-20) are ultralight and made from a durable, stretchy material, built for fast movement in the mountains. They're better suited for scrambling and alpine approaches.
