_**An August 2026 ask…** This month I published my first ever short story, a fictional piece titled “[The Last Message from Mars](https://amzn.to/3U4GAP3)“. It would mean a lot to me if you can [buy a copy](https://amzn.to/3U4GAP3). You probably have some Amazon “No Rush Rewards” credits that mean you could even get it for free. It’s also on [Google Play](https://play.google.com/store/books/details/Joshua_Lowcock_The_Last_Message_from_Mars?id=MvT8EQAAQBAJ). Kobo is coming soon. Thank you. – Joshua_

With the release of the [Remarkable Paper Pro aka Remarkable 3](https://amzn.to/4mOi1yY), we now have a full color eink tablet. During the announcement, I wrote up my first impressions of the [Remarkable Paper Pro here](https://www.joshualowcock.com/remarkable/introducing-the-remarkable-paper-pro/). Remarkable have not upgraded the Remarkable 2 and they also [ditched EMR pens for the Paper Pro.](https://www.joshualowcock.com/remarkable/answer-do-remarkable-2-pens-does-the-lamy-pen-work-with-the-remarkable-paper-pro/) This means if you want an eink tablet with a backlit, it’s either the Kindle Scribe or paying a significant premium for the Remarkable Paper Pro.

If you’re after a quick comparison of the Remarkable Paper Pro vs Kindle Scribe, you’re in luck. I have this for you below and have included the Remarkable 2 for good measure. I am still using my Remarkable 2 and can’t justify the upgrade yet. But if I was a betting person, I would guess that Amazon has seen the Paper Pro announcement, and a color Kindle Scribe can’t be that far off anyway. Why? Amazon tends to update Kindle’s every 2 years, the Kindle Scribe was released in November 2022 (write up here), so expect a Kindle Scribe update in late 2024, early 2025.

Which one is the right one for you? That all depends. I prefer EMR pens (no need to charge them). I liked the Scribe but couldn’t justify the upgrade when my [Remarkable 2](https://amzn.to/47GvwfN) worked just fine. If I was entering the category, I’d start with the Scribe these days – it’s good value, has better eBook support, higher DPI, and the backlight. The Remarkable 2 connect subscription is great, but without Microsoft One Note support it’s starting to be difficult to justify the Remarkable and I’d rather compromise on that these days and have proper book support like you get with the Kindle Scribe. But that’s just me. And as for the Remarkable Paper Pro, the loss of the EMR pen is a deal breaker for me – I want color but not if it requires charging the pen and not at the price Remarkable are asking.

My final thought is that Remarkable really should have dropped the price of the Remarkable 2 now that they have the Paper Pro. The starting price of the [Remarkable 2, at $449](https://amzn.to/47GvwfN), is too high considering you can get the [Kindle Scribe for less, often much less, from Amazon](https://amzn.to/3TwH3Xd).

I hope this post helps someone else.
