The **[TCL 60 XE phone](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F62N5KXF?tag=erf0a7-20)**’s **NXTPAPER screen** offers impressive **outdoor readability**, performing far better than standard LCD or OLED displays, though **E Ink** still has a slight advantage in direct sunlight.

Its **matte, nonreflective surface** eliminates glare and provides a **paper-like appearance**, making it comfortable for reading outdoors despite a slight reduction in clarity and viewing angles. The screen’s visibility in bright light also makes it easier to use the camera outside.

While the device includes **E Ink-style display modes** (black and white or color ink), these are largely cosmetic and don’t improve image quality. **Battery life** is shorter than E Ink but still **better than typical Android phones**, lasting several days when used for reading at lower brightness.

Overall, the NXTPAPER display delivers **vivid color, smooth 120Hz refresh rates, and solid outdoor performance**, making it an appealing **alternative to color E Ink** for phones, though traditional E Ink remains preferable for dedicated ereaders.

Managing Your Kindle Library After Amazon's Download Changes Amazon quietly removed the "Download & Transfer via USB" option from the Kindle website a while back, and it's still catching people off guard. The feature let you save ebook files directly to your computer from the browser — that path is gone now, but there are still legitimate ways to keep a local copy of your purchases. What Still Works The most straightforward option is transferring files directly from a Kindle device via...

Kobo's color panel replaced the classic monochrome Libra, and PocketBook quietly built the closest thing to its replacement. Two different companies, same button layout, and buyers are left sorting out which compromise actually fits their shelf. Would you trade sharper black-and-white text and library audiobooks for color covers and a snappier stylus, or is that not even a real trade-off for you? The wider picture is explored in the full piece...

Update (April 2026): Since this guide was posted, the Note Air5 C has received several firmware updates that expand on these features — most notably the 4.2 update, which added app-specific display optimization, scrollable note pages, and deeper calendar integration. For an overview of what's changed since firmware 4.1, there's a breakdown on the blog: https://www.ereadersforum.com/blog/boox-note-air5-c-4-2-update-new-features-that-significantly-improve-the-e-ink-workflow/ ---...

Amazon is reportedly preparing a major shift for its Fire Tablet lineup in 2026. For the first time, the company plans to release a high-end Fire Tablet that runs on standard Google Android rather than its in-house FireOS. The project, code-named Kittyhawk, is aimed at competing with Apple’s iPad and other premium tablets, with a projected price point above $400—making it the most expensive Fire Tablet to date. Since 2011, Amazon’s Fire Tablets have been known as budget-friendly devices...

Update (April 2026): Kaleido 4 has not yet appeared in consumer devices as of this writing. The market has continued on Kaleido 3, with devices like the Kindle Colorsoft, Kobo Libra Colour, and various BOOX models representing the current state of the technology. There's a regulatory deadline coming that doesn't get talked about as much as it probably should. From February 18, 2027, portable devices sold in the EU — phones, tablets, and e-readers included — will need batteries the owner can remove and replace using ordinary tools. No heat guns, no prying glued cells out, no specialist skills assumed. For a category that has spent the last decade sealing everything shut to chase thinness and water resistance, that's a meaningful design reset. And the...
