Construction is currently underway on the new data center campus of **MedOne** in Ramla. The company, which already operates several secure underground server farms in Israel (in Tel Aviv, Petah Tikva, and Tirat Carmel), is now building a massive underground campus in Ramla composed of three facilities. These will form one of Israel’s major communication hubs.
The first facility—currently in advanced stages of construction by a division of **[Danya Cebus](https://www.geodanya.co.il/projects/intel-2-2-2/)**—will span **18,000 square meters across three underground floors**.

## The Soft Underbelly of a Modern Nation

It’s hard to overstate the importance of communication networks in our globally connected digital world. Precisely for that reason, these communication centers are also a **strategic security vulnerability**.
A strike on a major data center—whether in war, a security incident, or a natural disaster—could cripple a country and disrupt vital systems.

That’s why the **main focus** when constructing such a facility is **resilience and continuity**. It also makes the construction process itself highly unique and worth documenting.

Each such server farm is physically secured, engineered to withstand **natural disasters and missile attacks**, and equipped with redundant systems to ensure uninterrupted power supply under any scenario.
In 2024, when Israel found itself at war and under missile fire from five different countries, the importance of this kind of protection became even more apparent.

In an interview from **September 2023**, just one month before the war broke out, **MedOne CEO Roni Shani** stated:

> “When planning the facility, we accounted for a wide range of external threats—deliberate sabotage, physical break-ins (both overt and covert), and attempts to insert surveillance or electronic disruption devices.
> The facility will be protected by a reinforced concrete shell, providing resistance against external explosions, including direct missile strikes. We also considered scenarios like nearby impact or underground detonations near the structure’s walls.
> All critical components—both IT and energy—are located underground to ensure maximum protection against these threats.”

## Documenting a Construction Project Below Ground

As mentioned, **resilience and security** are at the core of any server farm. As a result, the construction process is almost reversed: rather than building upward, everything is built **downward**.

In other words, an advanced data center is essentially a **skyscraper turned upside down**, built beneath the surface.
Due to the engineering complexity of the project, the site was equipped with **time-lapse cameras** from an early stage, ensuring that this one-of-a-kind process would be properly documented.

The responsibility for installing and operating the cameras was assigned to us—**TimelapseIT**, a company specializing in construction photography, with a focus on time-lapse films.

Thanks to this opportunity, we were able to capture one of the most **visually striking time-lapse videos** produced in Israel in recent years.
