A verified web 2.0 submission sites list for 2026: 100+ high-DA sites with dofollow status noted, and how to build web 2.0 backlinks that actually help.

People ask me for a Web 2.0 sites list almost every week. Most of them are hoping for a magic backlink shortcut.

I have to tell them the same thing every time: that shortcut does not exist.

Here is the list anyway, 100+ real Web 2.0 submission sites with their domain authority and whether the link is dofollow or nofollow.

But read the honest part first, because most of these lists skip it.

**Most Web 2.0 backlinks are nofollow. On their own, they will not move your rankings.** They are still worth building, just not for the reason most people think.

![The honest truth about Web 2.0 backlinks: what they are good for versus what they will not do](https://static.theguidex.com/images/insights/web-2-0-sites-list/web2-reality.webp)

What Web 2.0 backlinks actually do for you, and what they do not. Read the list below with this in mind.

## What are Web 2.0 sites?

Web 2.0 sites are free platforms where anyone can create a page or blog and publish content. WordPress.com, Blogger, Medium, Tumblr and Wix are the classic examples.

The name comes from the shift to user-generated content, the web where you publish, not just read.

In SEO, they matter for one reason: every page you create on them can link back to your own site.

**That makes them a free, beginner-friendly way to [build links](https://moz.com/learn/seo/backlinks) and put your brand on trusted domains.**

## Do Web 2.0 backlinks still work in 2026?

Yes, but not the way the old guides promise. Let me be straight about it.

Most Web 2.0 links are **nofollow**, which means Google treats them as a [hint, not a vote](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/crawling-indexing/qualify-outbound-links). They pass little to no ranking power.

**A wall of nofollow profile links will not lift you. Full stop.**

So what do they genuinely do? They put your brand on a high-trust domain, send referral clicks, give you an indexable page you control, and, on the platforms that allow dofollow contextual links, earn the occasional real link.

The trap is volume. Mass-creating dozens of identical or spun Web 2.0 blogs is the exact pattern [Google's spam policies](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/essentials/spam-policies) were written for.

A handful of real mini-blogs with original content is safe and useful. A hundred spun ones are a liability.

**In other words: treat these as small content assets, not a link farm.**

## The best Web 2.0 sites to start with

If you only build a few, build them here.

These are the high-DA, high-authority Web 2.0 sites, well-indexed, and most allow a real contextual link.

## How to build Web 2.0 backlinks the right way

How you build these decides everything. The list above is the easy part.

This is the Web 2.0 link building approach that keeps you on the safe side.

1. **Pick a few relevant platforms,** not all of them. Five real properties beat fifty empty ones.
2. **Build each as a real mini-blog.** A proper name, an About page, a few genuine posts. Make it look like something, not a link drop.
3. The content has to be original and worth reading. Spun or AI-dumped text is what gets these flagged.
4. **Link naturally and sparingly.** One or two contextual links to a relevant page, with varied anchor text, not exact-match every time.
5. A property with one post and a link looks like spam, so **keep publishing occasionally**. A few posts over time looks real.

Done like this, a Web 2.0 property becomes a small content asset that ranks, refers traffic, and carries a real link. **There is nothing more to it than that.**

## Mistakes that get you penalised

These are the moves that flip a Web 2.0 campaign from useful into a penalty risk. I have seen every one of them tank a site.

- **Mass-producing identical blogs.** Same template, same content, same anchor, fifty times. The clearest spam footprint there is.
- **Chasing only dofollow.** Most value here is the trusted domain and the referral click, not the link tag.
- **Exact-match anchors everywhere.** Vary them, or you build an unnatural pattern.
- **DA worship.** A nofollow link on a DA 95 site still passes little ranking power. Judge relevance and traffic too.
- **Abandoning them.** A property with one post screams "built for a link". Add a couple more.

## More free link-building guides

Web 2.0 sites are just one way to build links. Here are my other free lists, all checked the same way:

## Final take

A Web 2.0 sites list is useful, as long as you know what it is for. These are free properties on trusted domains, great for brand presence, referral traffic and a few real links.

What they are not is a ranking shortcut. Most are nofollow, and mass-producing them is a fast way to a spam footprint.

So build a handful properly, with content you would be happy to put your name on, and treat the link as a bonus rather than the point.

**That is the version of Web 2.0 link building that still works in 2026.**
