South Korean liner HMM has launched a generative AI‑based chatbot, developed with LG CNS, designed to streamline shipper services by turning complex maritime queries into natural, conversational Q&A.

The tool lets users check vessel schedules and freight rates and tackle specialist tasks – from country‑specific customs procedures and complex regulations to hazardous‑cargo acceptability – without needing exact maritime jargon. Real‑time translation in 17 languages enables 24/7 access, meaning shippers can resolve issues anytime and from anywhere, the carrier says.

An HMM spokesperson said: “The chatbot focuses on fundamentally resolving the inconveniences shippers have experienced in their work. We will continue to strengthen HMM’s unique service competitiveness through innovations in the shipper experience.”

HMM plans to refine the service using customer usage data and to expand digital offerings aligned with shippers’ business flows. Widespread adoption could also feed analytics that can further tailor digital workflows and improve commercial responsiveness.
