[Cognizant](https://qa-financial.com/?s=Cognizant), the US-based software services firm with firm roots in global banking and financial services delivery, is sharpening its focus on quality engineering and software testing as it pushes deeper into autonomous, AI-driven software development.

The Nasdaq-listed firm, headquartered in Teaneck, New Jersey, has struck a strategic partnership with Cognition, the creator of Devin AI, as part of a broader effort to embed agentic and autonomous AI across enterprise software lifecycles.

For banks and financial services firms grappling with legacy modernisation, operational resilience and regulatory scrutiny, the move signals Cognizant’s intent to position QA and testing at the centre of AI-native transformation.

The partnership brings Cognition’s Devin, positioned as an autonomous software engineer capable of planning, executing and validating end-to-end development tasks, together with Cognizant’s global delivery platforms, governance frameworks and financial-grade operating models.

The focus extends beyond code generation to activities that matter directly to QA teams, including testing, quality engineering, refactoring and ongoing application maintenance.

“AI is fundamentally transforming how software is built. 30 percent of our code is already generated with AI, and we aim to reach 50 percent in the near future,” disclosed Ravi Kumar, since January 2023 the chief executive officer of Cognizant.

“But achieving this requires more than powerful models or tools,” he stressed.

Kumar added: “As an AI builder, we bridge the gap between AI infrastructure investments and measurable business outcomes. Our partnership with Cognition combines autonomous and agentic engineering capabilities with enterprise-grade delivery, governance and scale, helping clients modernize faster and realize real value.”

## QA in regulated environments

For financial institutions, Cognizant’s push into autonomous software engineering builds on several years of investment in testing, resilience and large-scale delivery for regulated clients.

Banks are under increasing pressure to modernise core systems while maintaining stability, security and auditability, conditions that have elevated the role of QA and continuous testing across the software development lifecycle.

Cognizant said the collaboration with Cognition has been designed for enterprise use from the outset, with security, governance and operational rigor positioned as core requirements rather than afterthoughts.

The firm’s technologies will be integrated into Cognizant’s engineering practices, delivery frameworks and platforms, including Cognizant Flowsource, its engineering platform designed to integrate generative and agentic AI across the SDLC.

Internally, Cognizant has already deployed it Windsurf agentic development environment as part of its Vibe Coding initiative, an AI-assisted engineering programme that culminated in a Guinness World Record for the largest online Gen AI hackathon.

The company has pointed to the initiative as evidence that AI-driven software development, including testing and validation, can be applied at meaningful scale across large engineering organisations.

## Broader play for banking clients

The Cognition partnership sits alongside Cognizant’s wider expansion across financial services delivery, including investments in global engineering hubs, testing-as-a-service partnerships in Europe, and long-running transformation programmes for banks focused on resilience, modernisation and scale.

At the same time, competition within the IT services and QA market has intensified.

Cognizant launched a legal case against rival Infosys in 2024 over alleged trade secret issues, a case that remains ongoing, highlighting the strategic value firms place on engineering platforms, delivery models and intellectual property as AI becomes embedded in testing and development.

Initially, Cognizant and Cognition will focus on enterprise modernisation and engineering transformation programmes informed by early work in complex, large-scale environments.

According to the companies, these early engagements show how autonomous and agentic AI can be applied across real development workflows to improve productivity and support more efficient ongoing operations.
