Mac: Just released from the folks at Kayak.com, Kayak Explore is a new travel app that suggests potential vacation spots and tells you more about them.

Kayak Explore opens to a world map with several parts of the globe already highlighted. You can move the slider at the bottom of the page to select a price range for the type of vacation you'd like to take, or tap on any of the highlighted locations for more information about the destination, travel tips, and even real-time costs for a flight or hotel room in the area.

If you're interested in more destinations, you can tweak the filters at the bottom of the app to choose a "type" of vacation you'd like, whether you're interested in a trip to the beach, a romantic getaway, a trip to a winery or to wine country, an urban getaway, or more. You can also select the number of people going on the trip, when you want to leave, and your departing airport.

The app is no replacement for Kayak.com or for real research before you book a trip, but it's definitely a fun way to explore some new vacation destinations and how much it would take to get to them, especially if you need some ideas.

What do you think so far?
