After connecting your [LinkedIn Ads account](https://knowledge.hubspot.com/ads/connect-your-linkedin-ads-account-to-hubspot) to HubSpot, you can create new events and update existing events to use [LinkedIn's Conversions API](https://www.linkedin.com/help/lms/answer/a1655394). This will allow the ad network to optimize the delivery of your ads when a contact lifecycle stage is updated in HubSpot, as well as strengthen performance and privacy.

You can also create and sync ad conversion events with your [Google Ads account](https://knowledge.hubspot.com/ads/create-and-sync-ad-conversion-events-with-your-google-ads-account) or [Facebook Ads account](https://knowledge.hubspot.com/ads/create-and-sync-ad-conversion-events-with-your-meta-ads-accounts-using-metas-conversion-api).

## Before you get started

Before getting started with ad conversion events, do note the following:

- Only updates to records' lifecycle stages that occur after creating the conversion event in HubSpot will be counted and used to optimize the delivery of your ads.
- LinkedIn can only sync ad conversion events that happen within 90 days of an ad click. For example, if your contact clicked a LinkedIn ad on January 1, 2022 but didn't change to an _SQL_ until June 1, 2022, that contact won't be counted because it is outside the 90 day window.
- When [creating a LinkedIn conversion event](https://www.linkedin.com/help/lms/answer/a1657171), HubSpot will send the following data to LinkedIn:

    - Email address (hashed)
    - First name
    - Last name
    - Title
    - Company
    - Country
    - Click ID (hidden; enabled by default)
    - Lead ID (hidden; enabled by default)
    - If the contact has clicked on a LinkedIn ad, HubSpot will send L_ifecycle stage_ data to LinkedIn.

The number of ad conversion events you can create depends on your HubSpot subscription. Please review HubSpot’s [Product & Services Catalog](https://legal.hubspot.com/hubspot-product-and-services-catalog) for the most up-to-date pricing and packaging information.

- If you have a _**Marketing Hub**_ _Starter_ subscription, you can create up to 5 ad conversion events.
- If you have a _**Marketing Hub** Professional_ subscription, you can create up to 50 ad conversion events.
- If you have a _**Marketing Hub** Enterprise_ subscription, you can create up to 100 ad conversion events.

To create an ad conversion event using LinkedIn's Conversion API:

1. In your HubSpot account, click **More**, then navigate to [**Marketing** > **Ads**](https://app.hubspot.com/l/ads). If _More_ doesn't appear in your account, navigate to [**Marketing** > **Ads**](https://app.hubspot.com/l/ads) directly.
2. In the upper right, click **Create event**.
3. In the dialog box, configure the details for your event:
    - **Ad network:** the ad network the event is for. Select **LinkedIn** to create an ad conversion event for your LinkedIn ads account.
    - **Ad account:** the **LinkedIn Ads account** you want to sync the event with.

- - **Lifecycle stage:** the [HubSpot lifecycle stage](https://knowledge.hubspot.com/records/use-lifecycle-stages) specified for the event. The HubSpot lifecycle stage will be automatically associated with the matching conversion type in LinkedIn. To associate the HubSpot lifecycle stage with a different LinkedIn conversion type, edit the conversion rule in LinkedIn.

3. - **Value:** specify a monetary value for your event (this is how much each event is worth to you).
4. In the bottom right, click **Next: Data sharing settings**.
5. In your _Data sharing_ settings, configure the following:

- - **Consent to share data:** LinkedIn recommends obtaining your contacts’ consent to share data with third parties such as LinkedIn. If you choose to send consent data, only contacts with consent will be used by LinkedIn in the measurement and optimization of ad events. This field is optional.
        - To set up the consent to share data field with an existing property, select a **property** used to store consent and a **property value** that indicates that a contact has consented to share data.
        - If you’re setting up consent for the first time, it is recommended to [create a custom contact property](https://knowledge.hubspot.com/properties/create-and-edit-properties#create-a-custom-property). You can use this property to:
            - Store your contact’s consent data.
            - Use it as a consent field in your forms. When using a custom consent field, it is recommended to use this in all forms where visitors can convert. For example, you can create a single checkbox property with the label _I consent that this data may be shared with third parties such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and Google_.

- - **Data sharing:** select the **checkboxes** next to the HubSpot contact data to share with LinkedIn. HubSpot will use a secure one-way hashing algorithm called SHA256 to secure contact email addresses before sending to LinkedIn.
        - To use LinkedIn's conversion API, at least one option must be selected.
        - It is recommended to select all available user identifiers, including the default _Email_, _First name_, and _Last name_ properties, for the optimal identity match.

5. - **Choose contacts to share with network:** select which contacts to share with LinkedIn.
        - **All contacts that move to the selected lifecycle stage(s):** sync all HubSpot contacts that have moved to the selected lifecycle stage. It is strongly recommended to use this option to provide the best ad optimization.
        - **Only contacts that move to the selected lifecycle stage(s) and have interacted with your ads:** sync only HubSpot contacts that have moved to the selected lifecycle stage and interacted with your LinkedIn Ads.

    - **Event name:** the name of your event.
6. At the bottom, click **Create event**.

**Please note:** after the new conversion event has been created, the LinkedIn conversion status will be set to Unverified until data has synced from HubSpot to LinkedIn. After a conversion event has synced, the LinkedIn conversion status will appear as Active. Learn more about the different [LinkedIn conversion statuses](https://www.linkedin.com/help/lms/answer/a489395).

## Update lifecycle stage change ad conversion events to use LinkedIn's Conversions API

Replace your existing LinkedIn lifecycle stage events to use LinkedIn's new Conversions API. When replacing your events, existing lifecycle stage events will automatically be deleted. You can also update your event details. This new event will use LinkedIn's Conversions API.

2. Click the **Events** tab. You can review all conversion events.
3. To replace an existing LinkedIn event with one that uses LinkedIn's Conversion API, click **Replace event**.
4. By default, the details from your existing event should automatically populate. In the right panel, [continue setting up your new event](#create-ad-conversion-events-using-linkedin-s-conversions-api).

## Manage events in HubSpot

To review and manage your conversion events:

2. Click the **Events** tab. You can review all conversion events.
3. To disable syncing lifecycle data from your HubSpot account, click to toggle the **switch** off next to the name of the corresponding event.

4. To delete an event in your HubSpot account, click the name of the event. Then, in the right panel, click Delete.
5. To view more details on each event, click the name of the event. In the right panel, review additional details for your conversion event.

**Please note:** the total events in LinkedIn ads is not expected to match the data in HubSpot due to LinkedIn's requirements for how each metric is calculated. In addition, HubSpot support cannot pull event syncing logs unless there is an error with the event. This means, unless there is an error, we will not be able to identify why discrepancies between HubSpot and LinkedIn events are occurring.
