### eBooks

#### How to upload to KDP

**Note:** We recommend downloading your current manuscript and cover files before uploading new versions. Once you upload new files, you will not be able to download previous versions. We also recommend deleting old files from your computer before uploading new files containing revisions to KDP.

The title, subtitle, author name, series information, and ISBN in your manuscript file must match the details you entered during title setup.
To upload your manuscript file:

1. Go to your [Bookshelf](https://kdp.amazon.com/bookshelf).
2. Click the ellipsis button ("…") next to the book you want to upload.
3. Choose **Edit eBook content**.
4. In the "Manuscript" section, click **Upload eBook manuscript**.
5. Find your manuscript file on your computer and click **Open**.
6. After we finish converting your file, you'll see a confirmation. This can take from five to seven minutes.

**Note:** You can view Spell Check results and open Online Previewer to ensure your formatting is as you intended.

#### How to preview before publishing

Our Online Previewer tool shows you what your eBook will look like on different devices tablets, phones, and Kindle E-Readers. Tablet mode and phone mode will show your book in color, however, Kindle E-Reader mode will show your book in grayscale. Online Previewer supports [enhanced typesetting](https://kdp.amazon.com/help?topicId=G202087570) features when available using these devices. The Previewer won't display details like title and author name. Those details will be included in your eBook when it's published. The Online Previewer offers a quality check where you can review spelling and image issues at the same time you preview your eBook content.

To preview your eBook using Online Previewer:

1. Go to your [Bookshelf](https://kdp.amazon.com/bookshelf).
2. Click the ellipsis button ("…") next to the book you want to preview.
3. Choose **Edit eBook content**.
4. Scroll down to "Kindle eBook Preview" section and click **Launch Previewer**.

To check the quality of an eBook:

1. Go to your [Bookshelf](https://kdp.amazon.com/bookshelf).
2. Click the ellipsis button ("…") next to the book you want to check.
3. Choose **Edit eBook content**.
4. Scroll down to "Kindle eBook Preview and Quality Check" section.
5. Once the quality check is completed, you will see an alert with a summary of any issues found.
6. Click **Launch Previewer**.
7. A quality panel will expand from the right side of the Online Previewer. You can close the panel to hide quality issues in the preview. The panel can be opened anytime by clicking the Quality button located at the top right corner.
8. What you will see in the side-panel:
    - **Email Issues.** The list of issues will be emailed to your KDP account email address.
    - **Ignore All.** You can choose to ignore quality issues. Ignored issues won’t be shown the next time you upload your manuscript. **Note:** Even if you ignored the issues listed, your eBook will still go through our regular publishing process. If our review team detects any issues with your eBook you will be notified and the errors might surface in the [Quality Notifications Dashboard](https://kdp.amazon.com/help/topic/GWCUU33VBJHFSRYN).
    - **Issue Details.** You can select an error to view the context and recommended pixel density for image issues.
9. Common side-panel errors:
    - **Spell Check.** The side-panel can detect misspellings. You should always run spelling checks on your manuscript before uploading to KDP as an extra precaution.
    - **Image Check.** The side-panel can detect low quality images that can appear blurry on Kindle devices.
    - **Language mismatch.** English language was selected on the eBook detail page but the manuscript uploaded is in a different language. Spell Check and Image Check are available in Online Previewer for **English eBooks** only.
    - **Wrong Layout.** The side-panel only supports eBooks with [reflowable format](https://kdp.amazon.com/help/topic/GPNJPYK298J8TRRV).

To fix the errors inside the Online Previewer:

1. Open the Online Previewer and click the **Quality** option located at the top right corner.
2. Replace a word with the spelling recommended by KDP or enter your own replacement word.
3. Click Upload changes when you are done making changes in the previewer.
4. Submit your book for readers to receive the corrected version.

If you want to fix errors that are not highlighted in the side-panel, you will need to make the necessary edits in the original source file (HTML, EPUB, DOCX, etc.) and upload it directly to KDP.

5. Once the export is completed you will get an export successful alert.
6. You can also send the EPUB exported to your Send-to-Kindle-e-mail address to view on your Kindle. [Learn more about sending files to Kindle via email](https://www.amazon.com/gp/sendtokindle/email).
