**WPP Media**, formerly **GroupM**, is a U.S. based media business which is owned by the multinational holding company [WPP plc](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WPP_plc "WPP plc"). GroupM was the world's largest [media buying](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_buying "Media buying") agency, as of 2023.[\[3\]](#cite_note-3)[\[4\]](#cite_note-Joseph-4)

WPP Media's headquarters are located at [3 World Trade Center](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3_World_Trade_Center "3 World Trade Center"), in [Lower Manhattan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lower_Manhattan "Lower Manhattan"), and the company had subsidiaries in Asia, Australia, North America, and the [Europe, Middle East and Africa](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Europe,_the_Middle_East_and_Africa "Europe, the Middle East and Africa") (EMEA) region.

Businesses associated with GroupM included [Essence Global](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Essence_Global "Essence Global"), [Mindshare](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mindshare_\(firm\) "Mindshare (firm)"), [Wavemaker](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wavemaker_\(media_agency\) "Wavemaker (media agency)"), as well as the defunct media agency [Maxus](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maxus_\(media_agency\) "Maxus (media agency)"), and the [influencer marketing](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Influencer_marketing "Influencer marketing") agency Goat, with EssenceMediacom being the world's largest media agency network.

In May 2025, GroupM was rebranded as WPP Media.

[WPP plc](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WPP_plc "WPP plc") formed GroupM in 2003 to unite Mediaedge:CIA and Mindshare Worldwide.[\[5\]](#cite_note-Oster-5)[\[6\]](#cite_note-6)

In 2015, GroupM began requiring all media partners to acquire anti-piracy certification from the [Trustworthy Accountability Group](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trustworthy_Accountability_Group "Trustworthy Accountability Group").[\[7\]](#cite_note-7) In 2019, GroupM formed a coalition to help brands reach multicultural audiences.[\[8\]](#cite_note-8) The company had a diverse media advertisement investment goal of five percent; an initial goal of two percent Black-owned media, set in 2021,[\[9\]](#cite_note-9) was expanded in 2023 to include [AAPI](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asian_Pacific_Americans "Asian Pacific Americans"), Hispanic, and [LGBT](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT "LGBT") media.[\[10\]](#cite_note-10)

Following the [acquisition](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acquisition_of_Twitter_by_Elon_Musk "Acquisition of Twitter by Elon Musk") of [Twitter](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twitter "Twitter") by [Elon Musk](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elon_Musk "Elon Musk") in 2022, GroupM deemed Twitter a "high risk" platform.[\[11\]](#cite_note-11) GroupM removed the classification in 2023, when [Linda Yaccarino](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linda_Yaccarino "Linda Yaccarino") was named Twitter's [chief executive officer](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chief_executive_officer "Chief executive officer") (CEO) and the two companies collaborated on a [brand safety](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brand_safety "Brand safety") project.[\[12\]](#cite_note-12)

In 2022, GroupM debuted a carbon calculator to determine an advertisement's carbon output. The company also partnered with Good-Loop to launch an initiative to reduce the environmental impact of advertising spending. GroupM was the first agency holding group in Australia to offer carbon offsetting.[\[13\]](#cite_note-Ward-13)[\[14\]](#cite_note-14) The company formed a decarbonization coalition with 20 clients in 2022,[\[15\]](#cite_note-15) and improved the calculator's accuracy in 2023.[\[16\]](#cite_note-16)

In 2023, GroupM removed made-for-advertising sites (MFAs) from its programmatic businesses.[\[17\]](#cite_note-MFAs-17) The move "\[set\] a precedent" for the [advertising industry](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advertising_industry "Advertising industry"), according to _[Digiday](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digiday "Digiday")_, and was an expansion of work by the company's team in the U.K., which maintained a list of approximately 6,000 [domain names](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_names "Domain names") that were not MFAs.[\[18\]](#cite_note-Digiday-18) GroupM also launched an initiative to help brands invest in quality journalism.[\[19\]](#cite_note-19)

The business rebranded from GroupM to WPP Media in May 2025. It was confirmed that EssenceMediacom, Mindshare, T&Pm and Wavemaker would no longer operate as separate businesses and that there would be redundancies.[\[20\]](#cite_note-20)
