Wierzejewski's idea led to the creation of Patrz.pl \[Polish for: _Look!_\], a website enabling the [posting and playback](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Online_video_platform "Online video platform") of [short videos](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Short-form_content "Short-form content") (similar to YouTube founded at the same time).[\[10\]](#cite_note-:0-10)[\[11\]](#cite_note-:1-11)[\[13\]](#cite_note-13) By the end of 2007, with several million monthly users of Patrz.pl,[\[14\]](#cite_note-:20-14)[\[15\]](#cite_note-15) the partners sold it for nearly [PLN](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish_z%C5%82oty "Polish złoty") 2 million[\[16\]](#cite_note-16) to CR Media Consulting, which incorporated it to its [portal](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_portal "Web portal") Pino.pl.[\[17\]](#cite_note-17) From 2008, Sadowski, Wierzejewski, and Wnukiewicz took over management of Grupa Pino,[\[18\]](#cite_note-18)[\[19\]](#cite_note-19) operating a dozen of websites,[\[20\]](#cite_note-20)[\[21\]](#cite_note-21) including a [video-sharing site](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Online_video_platform "Online video platform") PinoTV, a [microblogging](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microblogging "Microblogging") platform Moblo.pl, and a [slide-hosting site](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slide_hosting_service "Slide hosting service") Slajdzik.pl.[\[22\]](#cite_note-22)[\[23\]](#cite_note-23)

### Turn to media monitoring

In April 2018, following [articles](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Article_\(publishing\) "Article (publishing)") covering the [Cambridge Analytica scandal](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facebook%E2%80%93Cambridge_Analytica_data_scandal "Facebook–Cambridge Analytica data scandal"),[\[52\]](#cite_note-52)[\[53\]](#cite_note-53) the company [Facebook](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meta_Platforms "Meta Platforms") (later rebranded to Meta) changed its [data access](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_access "Data access") policies for its social media platforms [Facebook](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facebook "Facebook") and [Instagram](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instagram "Instagram"), restricting [API](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/API "API") access.[\[54\]](#cite_note-54) Sadowski expressed Brand24's willingness to comply with the new rules.[\[55\]](#cite_note-55) In August 2019, an article in the US edition of [Business Insider](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_Insider "Business Insider") accused Brand24 of collecting [excessive amounts of data](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_breach "Data breach") from [Instagram profiles](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_profile "User profile") for [internet monitoring](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_intelligence "Media intelligence"),[\[56\]](#cite_note-56) using Brand24's own [crawlers](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_crawler "Web crawler"), in [violation](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terms_of_service "Terms of service") of the Instagram's [terms and conditions](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contractual_term "Contractual term").[\[57\]](#cite_note-57)[\[58\]](#cite_note-:6-58)[\[59\]](#cite_note-59)

The article also discussed other companies, including [Cambridge Analytica](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cambridge_Analytica "Cambridge Analytica"), that potentially abused [Facebook's API](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facebook_Platform "Facebook Platform") by using [data scraping](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_scraping "Data scraping"), as well as [automatic identification and data capture](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatic_identification_and_data_capture "Automatic identification and data capture"), for details officially unavailable including Instagram [avatars](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avatar_\(computing\) "Avatar (computing)"), user [locations](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Location "Location"), [passwords](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Password "Password"), and [ephemeral content](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ephemerality "Ephemerality") of Instastories.[\[60\]](#cite_note-60) Following the article's publication, Facebook the company preventively [blocked](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Block_\(Internet\) "Block (Internet)") Brand24's accounts on Facebook and Instagram, as well as Sadowski's [private profiles](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_privacy "Internet privacy"),[\[61\]](#cite_note-:7-61) demanding confirmation of [compliance](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Governance,_risk_management,_and_compliance "Governance, risk management, and compliance") with the terms and conditions, and conducting an audit of its [sensitive data](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Information_sensitivity "Information sensitivity").[\[62\]](#cite_note-62)[\[63\]](#cite_note-63)[\[64\]](#cite_note-64)[\[65\]](#cite_note-65) Brand24 disabled [data monitoring](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_analysis "Data analysis") from these services. Sadowski claimed on YouTube[\[66\]](#cite_note-66) that this was a misunderstanding and that he was addressing the matter with Facebook representatives.[\[58\]](#cite_note-:6-58)

It allows you to track key [industry trends](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Market_analysis#Market_trends "Market analysis"), issues impacting customers and consumers, and examine [customer expectations](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Customer_relationship_management "Customer relationship management") of a given company.[\[94\]](#cite_note-:14-94)

By monitoring sudden increases in reach or mentions,[\[96\]](#cite_note-96)[\[97\]](#cite_note-97) it allows marketers to [identify](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Influencer_marketing "Influencer marketing") [influential social media users](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Influencer "Influencer") who have the power to [shape consumer opinions](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Influence_of_mass_media "Influence of mass media") by discussing a brand, company, or specific topic.[\[98\]](#cite_note-98) It helps [prevent crises](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crisis_management "Crisis management") by providing [notifications](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notification_system "Notification system") about [negative content](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negative_feedback "Negative feedback"). ### How the system works

\[[edit](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Brand24&action=edit&section=11 "Edit section: How the system works")\]

Brand24 tools, available globally in a [SaaS model](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_as_a_service "Software as a service"), execute monitoring and report generation based on the analysis of public mentions.[\[101\]](#cite_note-101) They notify users of new results and [archive monitoring data](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Research_data_archiving "Research data archiving").[\[102\]](#cite_note-102)

Data collection is performed using web crawlers, official social media APIs, and specialized [intermediaries](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intermediary "Intermediary") that gather public mentions (including APIs from other search engines). As a result, the system creates and presents [snippets](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fragmentation_\(computing\) "Fragmentation (computing)") of monitored content.[\[103\]](#cite_note-103) The tool updates the list of mentions at various [frequencies](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frequency "Frequency"): twice a day, every hour, every 30 minutes – or [in real time](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real-time_computing "Real-time computing"), when the system immediately notifies users when a given piece of information is published, via the [web](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_application "Web application") and [mobile apps](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_app "Mobile app").[\[104\]](#cite_note-104)[\[105\]](#cite_note-105)

In April 2023, Brand24 was developing two proprietary [AI engines](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artificial_intelligence_engineering "Artificial intelligence engineering"), teaching algorithms to accurately analyze sentiment and properly interpret the [language](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Language "Language") and [emotions of publications](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emotion_classification "Emotion classification"), to be able to offer not only tools for collecting data, but also for drawing conclusions and recommending specific customer actions.[\[106\]](#cite_note-:13-106)

Independent reviews describe Brand24 as a social listening and media monitoring platform that provides [analytics](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_analysis "Data analysis") for [interpreting online mentions](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Relevance_\(information_retrieval\) "Relevance (information retrieval)"), including sentiment and other insight features.[\[107\]](#cite_note-:15-107)[\[108\]](#cite_note-:21-108) Third-party descriptions also note topic analysis functionality that groups or surfaces what people discuss around a monitored term, supporting trend interpretation.[\[107\]](#cite_note-:15-107)[\[108\]](#cite_note-:21-108)

Reviews further mention influencer-related functionality (eg. influencer tracking, identifying influential voices) to help users find prominent authors or accounts in monitored conversations.[\[107\]](#cite_note-:15-107) Separately, reviewers and user feedback describe alerting based on [unusual increases in activity](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unintended_consequences "Unintended consequences") (eg. email alerts triggered when mention volume [crosses a threshold](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Predictive_analytics "Predictive analytics")), which can help users [notice sudden spikes](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anomaly_detection "Anomaly detection") that may require [rapid response](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_the_fly "On the fly").[\[109\]](#cite_note-109)[\[110\]](#cite_note-110)

In addition to the flagship tool, Brand24 is developing its parallel extensions:

- Insights24 – an analytical tool that generates reports based on data collected online, introduced in 2021.[\[111\]](#cite_note-:16-111)[\[2\]](#cite_note-:10-2)[\[112\]](#cite_note-112)
- Brand Assistant – allows to break down online conversations around a chosen brand-related topic and its impact on key related threads.[\[113\]](#cite_note-113)
- Brand Monitoring – an application for [SEO specialists](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Search_engine_optimization "Search engine optimization"),[\[85\]](#cite_note-:11-85) to create advanced reports and [press releases](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Press_release "Press release"), created in partnership with Semrush.[\[111\]](#cite_note-:16-111)[\[106\]](#cite_note-:13-106)
- Chatbeat – measures brand visibility and positioning in texts generated by AI language models.[\[114\]](#cite_note-114) Available since 2024, it estimates a brand's exposure to chatbot queries that are most relevant to it.[\[115\]](#cite_note-115)

## Research and development

\[[edit](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Brand24&action=edit&section=14 "Edit section: Research and development")\]

In July 2020, Brand24 the company developed a [neural network](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neural_network_\(machine_learning\) "Neural network (machine learning)")\-based content [filtering mechanism](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_filter "Internet filter") that makes it easier for Brand24 users to review mentions of their brands. A relevance filter was created, which preserves the essence of mentions and allows for quick viewing of the most relevant results. The mechanism evaluates each mention based on sentiment, [source popularity](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opinion_poll "Opinion poll"), and category weight.[\[116\]](#cite_note-116)

Between 2021 and 2023, the company built artificial intelligence algorithms that interpret brand content published online. Its flagship product, Brand24, was expanded to include [multilingual text](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallel_text "Parallel text") analysis and models analyzing [multimodal data](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multimodal_learning "Multimodal learning"). The company received PLN 3.8 million in [EU funding](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Structural_and_Investment_Funds "European Structural and Investment Funds") for [research and implementation](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Research_and_development "Research and development").[\[117\]](#cite_note-117)[\[118\]](#cite_note-118) In January 2023, Brand24 launched a new version of its proprietary AI sentiment analysis model, increasing its effectiveness in identifying [positive](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Positive_affectivity "Positive affectivity") and [negative mentions](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negative_affectivity "Negative affectivity") from 64% to 84%, across over 100 languages.[\[119\]](#cite_note-119)
