## How to Publish with Draft2Digital

**Draft2Digital gives you a fast, easy way to self-publish.**

We’ll handle the formatting and distribution. You set the price of your books, get monthly payments, and see daily reports of your book sales. We make it all work with always available self-service tools and dedicated author support staff. We make a percentage of each of your books’ sales, so we don’t get paid unless you get paid, and authors keep 100% of their rights.

If you’ve already published your book directly to online stores (directly to Amazon) or through another aggregate distributor, you can still use Draft2Digital to expand your reach even further and simplify your project management for the sales channels you choose.

### STEP 1: SET UP YOUR ACCOUNT

When you sign up for an account, we’ll need a couple of basic pieces of information:

- Author name
- Email address
- Tax verification

At this point you may know whether you want to list books or not. If you want to list books you'll need to pay an activation fee before you are able to distribute any work.

Our interface is easy to use, so getting set up only takes a couple of minutes. Forget trying to learn the quirks of each sales outlet and duplicating your effort across multiple websites. We give you one simple place where you can get it all done and make changes at any time, free of charge.

### STEP 2: UPLOAD YOUR MANUSCRIPT & COVER ART

All you need to get started is a Word document (.doc or .docx format), RTF, or any other file type Word can read. For content, you can check our [Content Guidelines](https://draft2digital.com/content-guidelines/), but for formatting **we don’t have a style guide or any special formatting requirements**.

- Unless you already have one you like, skip the Title Page and Copyright Page. Just give us your story or book content with consistent header styles, and we’ll make the files for you.
- We’ll make sure your book gets a working Table of Contents and page breaks between chapters. We also generate custom end-matter like About the Author and Teaser pages. We guarantee that anything we produce will pass Epubcheck, meaning it meets the technical standards for all our digital stores.
- If you have cover art, upload that too. A 1600x2400 JPEG works best, but any tall rectangle will do. We’ll resize whatever you send to meet the requirements of your chosen sales channels.

Our conversion process creates a beautiful epub, which you are allowed to download and use at your discretion.

If you have an expertly formatted epub of your own, that’s cool too. We won’t make any formatting changes; we’ll gladly distribute your book to any of our digital stores on your behalf.

The process really is this easy, and our [Author Support](https://draft2digital.com/contact/) team is here to help if you have questions.

### STEP 3: CHOOSE YOUR EBOOK VENDORS

Draft2Digital will get your book listed just as fast as going direct, and we support some of the largest sales channels:

- Amazon
- Apple Books
- Barnes & Noble
- Bookshop.org
- BorrowBox
- cloudLibrary
- Everand
- Fable
- Gardners
- Hoopla
- Kobo (including Kobo Plus)
- OverDrive
- Smashwords
- Tolino
- Vivlio
- and we’re working on adding more!

Instead of maintaining author profiles, sales descriptions, book versions, prices, and series titles on each of all of those different store websites, we give you **_one easy place_** to maintain your book information and make updates.

Turning any of the sales channels on or off is as easy as clicking a checkbox. If you’d like to see support for a sales channel not mentioned above, let us know through our [Contact Us](https://draft2digital.com/contact/) form.

Draft2Digital will automatically assign a free **_ISBN_** to any book published through our system unless you provide one of your own. It’s a free service we provide because ISBNs allow us to distribute your book to more vendors, and you don’t have to forfeit any of your rights. That’s good for you and good for us!

If you already have the sales details ready for your next release (most importantly a firm release date), you can even set up **_preorders_** through Draft2Digital for all of our most popular sales channels. It’s a great way to build interest and boost your sales rank on release day.

### STEP 4: SET YOUR EBOOK LIST PRICE

When you publish a book, you'll enter a Digital Book Price (in US dollars). The list price is up to you!

We will direct our digital stores to sell your book at the list price you provided.

Want to list your book for **_free_**? No problem. Choose a list price of $0.00 on the publishing page, and we'll make it happen.

If you decide to **_change_** your book’s price at any time (either temporarily or for good), just go back into our portal and make your adjustment. We’ll ensure that information gets updated with all of your vendors.

Another exciting audio opportunity is through Apple's Digital Narration project. Authors can choose to send eligible books for a hands-off audiobook creation experience. [Book eligibility is limited, see if your books qualify.](https://draft2digital.com/digital-narration/)

### STEP 5: SET UP OTHER FORMATS LIKE PRINT OR AUDIO

Draft2Digital can also create **_paperbacks_** for any books generated through our conversion service (that is, everything except pre-formatted epub uploads). D2D Print is a Print on Demand (POD) service where your published book will be listed as in-stock through online booksellers; and, when your reader purchases your book, only then will it be printed and shipped. There's no need to worry about inventory, stock, or stock returns.

To help you plan your print book price, try the [Print Price Calculator](https://www.draft2digital.com/podcalc). The numbers presented on the calculator are estimates and actual costs and royalties may vary, but you can expect to make about 45% of the list price of your book minus the printing cost.

D2D continues to partner with Voices by INaudio, a division of Spotify, for audiobook distribution. If you have a complete and edited audiobook, you can sign up to Voices by INaudio through Draft2Digital to easily transfer the metadata for your book(s) and access the world's largest audiobook distribution network.

### STEP 6: MANAGE AND TRACK

Our goal is to take the headache out of publishing your book and managing it once it’s out there. We give you one easy place to take care of business and track your success.

- **_Manage changes._** If you need to make any changes—whether it’s to the body text, the product description, or just tweaking the price for a weekend promotion—Draft2Digital will push ebook changes through immediately at no charge to you. One free submission of print changes is allowed per 90 day period (content and cover can all be submitted as one change).
- **_See reports._** We provide constant access to up-to-date sales reports for all of your sales channels. We always post your sales number estimates as soon as they’re available. And we make analysis easy by providing all of your sales data in dynamic charts instead of in long, complicated spreadsheets. (Pro-tip: If you’re looking for a chart setting that you can’t seem to find, look for a tab in the bottom left-hand menu.)
- **_Get paid._** Draft2Digital pays monthly, with a minimum payment thresholds . Once we receive your royalty payment from the sales channel – usually 30-90 days after sales occur – we’ll subtract our 10% and send the rest on to you. [Learn more about payment method fees here.](https://draft2digital.com/knowledge-base/#faq-category-payment)
- **_Continue on for the long term._** Draft2Digital has an annual maintenance fee of $12, which is waived for any account that earns more than $100 from their books. [To learn more about fees and see your account's status, check out our fee page.](https://draft2digital.com/faq/)
